MCLAREN THE MASTERS OF SPEED

A UNIQUE ROAD TO SUCCESS

“Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.” Bruce McLaren

Before McLaren, F1 teams focussed their resources on a single objective: winning the Formula One World Constructors' Championship. It is the only team to have turned itself into a road car manufacturer, and to have won Indianapolis 500, Can Am, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and four consecutive drivers and constructors championships in Formula One.

TAG Heuer is part of this tremendous adventure since1985: 2015 marks 30 years of partnership, the longest collaboration between a watch brand and a Formula 1 team: the partnership is packed with legendary names, not least that of Ayrton Senna. It is a consolidation of shared values: performance, precision, prestige and innovation. All elements are in place, and to celebrate this anniversary in fitting fashion, a limited edition red and black TAG Heuer Formula 1 will be on display exclusively at the show.

...LIKE TAG HEUER’S

In 1963, a 26-year-old named Bruce McLaren began building race cars in a cramped workshop in Surrey, England...

He had already made a name for himself as a driver in his native New Zealand and in the States, and the year before he won the Monaco Grand Prix. Three years later, driving a Formula One car built with his own hands and bearing his name, he won it again. Four years later, he was dead, killed in a fiery crash while testing his newest design. “Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone,” he once wrote of a fallen colleague. It is his own perfect epitaph. The legacy of his achievements is without equal in motorsports. His McLaren Technology Centre employs more than 2000 people and, along with F1 cars, manufactures the world’s most coveted supercars, and his team has more victories than any other team in Formula 1. McLaren is even the most successful team in F1 since they started competing in F1 in 1966. It dominated the North American CanAm sports car series, with 43 wins between 1967 and 1972, won the Indy 500 three times between ’72 and ’76, and took the Le Mans 24 Hours on its first attempt, in 1995. The team’s drivers — Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button. — are household names and legends of motorsport. Two of them, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, form the greatest rivalry in the history of motor sports. And they, like the team they fought for, and like TAG heuer, are representatives of the finest in the race: courage, ambition, vision, an ability to push harder than the rest. TAG Heuer and McLaren, a partnership that, no matter the circumstances, doesn’t crack under pressure.
