TAG Heuer ambassador Maria Sharapova had to play some of her best tennis to defeat Simona Halep and win a second French Open crown under sunny Parisian skies Saturday.
Sharapova, whose last grand slam victory came on the Roland Garros clay in 2012, saw off the rising Romanian star 6-4 6-7(5) 6-4 after a tight tussle.
“When you just don't feel like anything is going your way, you want to try to find a little door to get into,” Maria explained before saying that she sets herself small, attainable goals to slow her opponent’s momentum. “It's always that little part that is the toughest. Once you get your foot in the door, then it's a little bit easier for yourself.”
