During its partnership, TAG Heuer Avant-Garde Eyewear closely worked with ORACLE TEAM USA to equip the sailing crew with perfectly adapted sunglasses, with accurate Watersport lenses. This collaboration resulted in ORACLE TEAM USA skipper Jimmy Spithill helping to design a specific frame based on a TAG Heuer Racer pair of sunglasses. This unique piece was specially developed for the Sailing Crew, who wore them during the 34th America’s Cup Finals.
Last September, in San Francisco bay, ORACLE TEAM USA completed a thrilling come-from-behind victory. Down by a seemingly insurmountable 8-1 score in the best-of-17 regatta, ORACLE TEAM USA won an astounding eight consecutive races over Emirates Team New Zealand to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in elite sport.
“We are extremely proud of every member of this extraordinary crew and every component on this incredible boat,” said Stéphane Linder, TAG Heuer CEO and President, after the final race in San Francisco Bay on September 25th.
To celebrate the victory, TAG Heuer Avant-Garde Eyewear decided to pay tribute to this stunning victory by producing a limited edition of the sunglasses worn by ORACLE TEAM USA. “We wanted to create something really special, to remember this amazing moment of sport. Therefore, we proposed to ORACLE TEAM USA to integrate a piece of their AC72 boat into these sunglasses. They really liked this idea!”, explained Stéphane Linder.
The TAG Heuer RACER "ORACLE TEAM USA 34th America's Cup winner" Limited Edition combine two different types of high-tech materials: the Grilamid TR90, a nylon well known for its resistancy, lightness and shape memory, and the carbon fiber coming from a piece of ORACLE TEAM USA AC72 boat. This unique design has been produced in 1500 numbered products.
